How to Reset Your City Password

Applies to: All City of Redlands employees
If you've forgotten your password or it has expired, follow these steps to reset it.
Method 1: Self-Service Password Reset (Recommended)
- Visit the password reset portal: https://password.cityofredlands.org
- Enter your City email address (firstname.lastname@cityofredlands.org)
- Click "Send Reset Link"
- Check your email inbox (including spam/junk folder)
- Click the reset link within 30 minutes
- Create a new password following these requirements:
- Minimum 12 characters
- At least one uppercase letter (A-Z)
- At least one lowercase letter (a-z)
- At least one number (0-9)
- At least one special character (!@#$%^&*)
- Cannot be any of your last 5 passwords
- Cannot contain your username or parts of your name
Method 2: Contact IT Support
If the self-service portal doesn't work:
- Submit a ticket through our IT Support Portal
- Select "Incident" → "Password reset needed"
- Include:
- Your employee ID
- Your department
- Asset tag of affected device (if applicable)
- Mark urgency appropriately
- IT will reset your password within:
- Critical/High: 30 minutes during business hours
- Normal/Low: 4 hours during business hours
Password Best Practices
- Never share your password with anyone, including IT staff
- Don't write passwords down on sticky notes or notebooks
- Use unique passwords for each system
- Consider a password manager for secure storage
- Change your password if you suspect it's been compromised
Common Issues
"Invalid credentials" after reset
- Clear your browser cache
- Try a different browser
- Ensure CAPS LOCK is off
- Contact IT if issue persists
"Password doesn't meet requirements"
- Ensure all character types are included
- Check for spaces at beginning/end
- Avoid common patterns (Password123!)
